1973 Evel Knievel Scramble Van

Evel Knievel Scramble Van

The Scramble Van play set was issued in 1973. The set was a success and continued on the market until 1976.
There was also a German version of this made by a company named Arxon.

There were a couple production releases of the Scramble van when focus on reducing the risk of child choking hazards became mainstrain throughout the toy manufacturing industry.

The very first version of the Scramble Van featured detachable front horns.  Later issues replaced these with  molded horns. The set contained the  Scramble Van with detachable side panels, back door and detachable windshield.

Many small accessories came with the set and consisted of: motorcycle trailer, chair, three piece jump ramp, small and large hammer, wrench, pry bar, grease gun, stairs, screw driver, coffee pot small pylon, large pylon. Most of these pieces were red however some came in brown and more often in the very first editions.

The Scramble van is one of the least scarce Evel Knievel toys around right now. Many can be found on Ebay. Boxed sets average around $100 while sealed sets can fetch around $200-$250 on the high side.
Collectors still try and get top dollar however the demand is just not there for these.

Pink Evel Knievel Scramble Van Toy

Somewhere down the line Ideal released a Scramble Van with pink stripes.

It is unknown if this was a printing error. Some claim that they were going to release a Debby Daring Scramble van and scratched the idea before bringing to market. Standard Scramble Van’s are a dime a dozen on Ebay but these pink striped Scramble Vans are becoming very rare. And have been purchased by serious collectors for over $500 (complete). The pink is printed on the removable vinyl walls so if you find a loose set you can use them on any van.
